The Griffins used a 21-0 third quarter advantage as they pulled away for a 42-21 victory over West Liberty. SHU improves to 1-1 on the season while the Hilltoppers fall to 0-2. Â
After a stop on West Liberty's first drive of the game, the Griffins moved the ball 50 yards in nine plays to take a 7-0 lead with 6:31 left in the first quarter.Â
Boden St Marie hit
Clint Washington with a 28 yard touchdown pass on a 3rd and 24. The Hilltoppers tied the score at seven on a 14 yard touchdown pass with 1:23 left in the contest to tie the score at seven. Â
The Griffins took the lead in the second quarter with a special teams play.Â

Drew Zimmerman returned the block 38 yards for a touchdown and a 14-7 Griffin lead with 9:22 to play. Just over two minutes later, West Liberty tied the score at 14 with a 65 yard touchdown pass. Late in the half, the Griffins forced a three and out and took over with 48 seconds left on their own 12 yard line with no timeouts.Â
Ky'Ron Craggette ran for 21 yards and St Marie hit Washington with a 38 yard pass to move to the WLU 29 yard line. With eight seconds left, St Marie found
Isaac Ashley behind the defense for a touchdown and a 21-14 SHU halftime lead. Â

Darius Patterson picked off a pass and raced 74 yards to the house for a touchdown. The Griffins led 35-14 with 9:34 left in the quarter. A strip sack from Richard Johnson led to the next Griffin touchdown.Â
Ahmad Ward scored from one yard out to increase the Griffin lead to 42-14 with 6:31 left in the contest.Â
St Marie finished with 183 yards passing and three touchdowns.Â
Clint Washington finished with three catches for 76 yards and a touchdown.Â
Ritchie McCormack led the defense with 11 tackles including two tackles for loss. Richard Johnson added 10 tackles including two sacks.Â
Darius Patterson had two interceptions in the win. Â
