Seton Hill kicked off PSAC West action on Saturday afternoon as they hosted Indiana (PA) at Offutt Field in Greensburg.
The Crimson Hawks scored the first 40 points of the contest as they defeated the Griffins 40-13. SHU is now 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the PSAC West while IUP improves to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the west. Â
IUP led just 6-0 after the first quarter on field goals of 33 and 47 yards. The Griffins had a 44 yard field goal blocked in the quarter. Â
The Crimson Hawks increased their lead to 13-0 with a 10 yard touchdown pass late in the second quarter. SHU drove to the IUP 27 but missed another 44 yard field goal on the final play of the half. Â
Indiana went 80 yards in eight plays on the first drive of the second half as they pushed their lead to 20-0 with a one yard touchdown run. After a SHU punt, the Crimson Hawks increased their lead to 26-0 with an 8 yard touchdown pass with 1:56 left in the quarter. Â
On the second play of the fourth quarter, the Crimson Hawks scored from 30 yards out as they built a 33-0 lead. After a three and out for the Griffins, IUP increased their lead to 40-0 with a one yard touchdown pass. On the next IUP possession,
Ritchie McCormack picked up an IUP fumble and raced 37 yards for a touchdown to trim the lead to 40-7 with 6:31 left.Â
Darius Patterson intercepted a pass on the next drive setting up the Griffins on their own 46 yard line.Â
Darrian Carter capped off the drive with a four yard touchdown run to cut the lead to 40-13. Â
De'Mario Manning led SHU with 11 tackles. McCormack added 10 tackles, including three for loss. Â
SHU will continue PSAC West action next Saturday when they travel to CalU. Â
