Baseball Sweeps Clarion to Open PSAC West Series

Seton Hill continued returned to PSAC West play on Saturday afternoon as they hosted Clarion in the first two games of the four game set.     

The Griffins defeated Clarion 11-0 in game one of the doubleheader.  Seton Hill completed the sweep of Clarion with a 3-1 win in game two.  SHU is now 30-12 overall and 16-6 in the PSAC West.

SHU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.  Jack Whalen drew a leadoff walk.  Colin Ahr homered to right field to give SHU a 2-0 lead.  Brady McGuire was hit by a pitch and scored on a Mark Black double.  

The Griffins made it 4-0 in the second.  Gage Wheaton doubled to lead off the second and scored on a Whalen RBI ground out.  

Seton Hill broke the game open in the third.  McGuire walked and scored on a Black two run shot to left center.  Wheaton was hit by a pitch, Owen Yoder walked and Whalen was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Owen Henne singled to scored two and Ahr followed with an RBI double as the Griffins took a 10-0 lead.  Yoder added an RBI groundout the fourth as SHU.

Ahr led the offense with three hits.  Henne and Black added two hits.  Jon McCullough, Luke McCoy and Tony Buttari combined on the three hit shutout. 

The Griffins took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of game two.  Whalen singled to lead off the inning, stole second and later scored on an Ahr sacrifice fly.  In the third, Yoder singled and scored on a Ahr RBI double as the Griffins took a 2-1 lead.  

Clarion picked up a run in the top of the fourth inning as they cut the lead to 2-1.  The Griffins got that run back in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Whalen singled to lead off the inning and stole second.  He scored on a two out, RBI single from McGuire as SHU took a 3-1 lead.  

Whalen and McGuire each had two hits for the Griffins.  Matthew Blanchard and Zach Herb combined for the win.  Blanchard earned the win by going four innings, Herb earned the save with three scoreless innings.  

The Griffins will travel to Clarion on Sunday for the final two games of their four game PSAC West series.
