Box Score The Griffins played in their first ever PSAC Quarterfinal on Wednesday evening as they made the trip to California (PA) for a matchup with the second seeded Vulcans.
California (PA) led by ten points at the half and defeated the Griffins 87-75 to advance to the PSAC Semifinals. SHU ends the season with a 16-14 record.
Seton Hill took an early 4-0 lead in the contest on baskets from
Camden Brewer and
Gabe Gillespie. A Gillespie layup tied the score at eight with 14:24 to play. The Vulcans then went on a 12-0 run over the next five minutes to build an 20-8 lead. Back to back layups from
Kedrick Curtis and
Edir Ortiz trimmed the lead to 20-12 with 8:51 left.
A three pointer from
Gage Lattimore and a
Ryan Meis basket cut the Vulcan lead to 33-26 with 3:42 left in the half. A pair of Ortiz free throws and a Meis layup cut the lead to 35-30 with 2:05 to play. CalU closed the half on an 8-3 run to take a 43-33 lead into the halftime break.
Seton Hill cut the Vulcan lead to 50-45 on a three from
James Rice and a Lattimore bucket with 15:29 to play. CalU used three straight three pointers to extend their lead to 61-46 with 11:46 remaining. SHU cut the lead back to single digits on a Meis three pointer with 8:47 left. The Griffins would not get any closer than nine points the rest of the half.
Ortiz led the Griffins with 16 points. Gillespie added 14 points. Curtis and Lattimore each finished with 12 points.
