Track Teams Compete in CMU Invitational

The Griffin track and field teams competed in Pittsburgh at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational this weekend.  

The men's team finished with 14 top ten finishes while the women's team added eight top ten finishes.  

On the men's side, the 4x4 relay team of Blaise Verrastro, Devin Underwood, George Grassmyer and Jacy Willis finished first in a time of 3:19.48.  Verrastro was also fourth in the 200 in a time of 21.65.  That was the second best time in school history.  Blaise was also 8th in the 100 (11.07).  

Angelo Allen had three top ten finishes.  He was third in the discus (47.53m).  Allen was fourth in the hammer (49.84m) and sixth in the shot put (15.15m).  Malwandla Baloyi had two top ten finishes.  He was second in the high jump, clearing 1.99 meters.  That was the third best mark all time in school history.  Baloyi was also seventh in the 110 hurdles (15.49).  

John Giansante was fifth in the long jump with a mark of 6.69 meters.  Cody Achilles was ninth in the steeple in a time of 9:51.11, the 4th best all time in school history.  Cody Scherle was ninth in the javelin (52.16m).  Kaden Crump was ninth in the 800 (1:55.92), the 5th best all time mark.  Andrew Campbell was ninth in the 100 (11.10) and Roman Brenny was 10th in the 400 hurdles (57.87).  

The women's 4x4 relay team of Haley Brenny, Nemani Moon, Artemis Conaboy and Layla Robertson set a new school record with a time of 3:51.88.  That time was first at the meet.  Brenny also won the 400 hurdles in a time of 1:02.87.  She has the third best time in school history.  Robertson was second in the event with a time of 1:05.56.  Moon was sixth in the 800 in a time of 2:19.85.  That is the seventh best time in school history.  

Kate Pipilo was sixth in the 1500 (4:44.49).  Anessa Pigula was sixth in the steeple (12:14.68).  Sarah Gilliam was eighth in the hammer (42.00m) and Baine Snyder was eighth in the pole vault clearing 3.21 meters.  Snyder's mark was sixth all time.

At the West Liberty Tim Weaver Invitational, Ben Kissell was second in the decathlon with 5,621 points.  That is the fourth most all time.  He won the 110 hurdles in a time of 16.66.  

The teams will return to action next weekend at Slippery Rock's Dave Labor Invitational.
