Griffins Split Doubleheader at Belmont Abbey

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Seton Hill traveled to Belmont, NC for a midweek doubleheader with Belmont Abbey on Tuesday afternoon.

Seton Hill won game one by an 8-2 score and then split the doubleheader with a 12-11, 8 inning loss in game two.  SHU is now 9-5 on the season while Abbey is 13-7.  

Belmont Abbey took a 1-0 lead over the Griffins in the bottom of the first inning of game one.  The Griffins retook the lead in the top of the second inning.  Abby Dejidas doubled with one out.  She scored on a Bre Athey double.  Athey then scored on a Kassidy Wittig single that gave SHU a 2-1 lead.  

The Griffins extended their lead in the third.  Grace Paredes homered to lead off the inning.  Anna Kalkowski doubled and later scored on a two run shot from Brooke Cleland as the Griffins led 5-1.  SHU added two more in the fourth.  Witting walked and scored on a two run shot from Paredes.  Kalkowski doubled in the Griffins eighth run.

Wittig led the offense with three hits.  Paredes and Kalkowski each added two hits.  Paredes homered twice.  Shelby Telegdy earned the win in the circle.  

Belmont Abbey also took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game two.  The Griffins tied the game in the second.  Abby Smearman singled and later scored on an Olivia Calvetti RBI single.  SHU took the lead with an unearned run after. Brooklyn Fukushima RBI single.  

SHU scored six times in the fourth inning.  The big hit in the inning was a grand slam from Cleland.  Wittig also singled in a run in the inning as SHU led 8-1.  Belmont Abbey cut the lead to 7-6 with a five spot in their half of the fourth.  

Belmont Abbey took the lead in the fifth with three runs as they took a 9-8 lead.  SHU retook the lead in the sixth.  Smearman, Athey and Calvetti each drove in runs in the inning as the Griffins led 11-9.  

Belmont Abbey tied it with two runs in the seventh and walked it off in the eighth.

Fukushima and Calvetti each had three hits.  Cleland, Smearman and Vybiral each added two hits. 

The Griffins will begin PSAC West play next Tuesday as they host CalU.
