Griffins Close Regular Season with Loss at Gannon

Box Score Seton Hill concluded their regular season with a PSAC West road contest at Gannon on Saturday afternoon in Erie.  

Gannon pulled away in the fourth quarter as they defeated the Griffins 89-71 in PSAC West play.  SHU falls to 22-5 overall and 16-4 in the PSAC while Gannon improves to 24-5 overall and 16-4 in the west.  Gannon will earn the two seed and the first round bye by winning the tiebreaker over the Griffins with two wins vs SHU.  

Gannon got off to a fast start as they scored the first seven points of the contest.  The Griffins responded with an 11-2 run as they took an 11-9 lead at the midpoint of the first quarter.  Helene Cowan scored four points in the run and Abby Mankins scored the final five.  A layup from Shaye Bailey and a three from Hallie Cowan pushed the SHU lead to 19-16 late in the first quarter but Gannon tied the score at 19 to close out the scoring in the quarter.  

The Knights scored the first seven points of the second quarter as well as they took a 26-19 lead.  Four from Mankins and a Hallie Cowan three cut the lead to 27-26 with 5:49 left.  Gannon built their lead to 42-38 at the end of the first half.  

The third quarter got off to a slow start as the Golden Knights took a 47-40 lead midway through the quarter. The Griffins cut the lead to three at 52-49 with 2:28 to play after a 5-0 run.  Gannon then closed the quarter on an 8-3 run to take a 60-52 lead after three quarters.  

Hallie Cowan opened the fourth quarter with a three and Mia Kalich and Helebe Cowan followed with baskets as the Griffins cut the lead to 62-59 with nine minutes left.  Gannon responded with an 8-2 run to take a 70-61 lead midway through the quarter.  

The Cowan sisters led the Griffins in scoring.  Hallie finished with 19 and Helene added 18.  Mankins also reached double figures with 15 points.  

The Griffins will begin PSAC postseason play this week when they host a PSAC First Round Contest on Monday evening against sixth seed Clarion.
