The Griffin volleyball team made the trip across the state for a PSAC Quarterfinal matchup at East Stroudsburg on Tuesday evening.
SHU took a 2-1 lead over the Warriors but the top seeded squad won the final two sets to defeat the Griffins 3-2. SHU falls to 15-12 on the season.
The early portion of the first set was tightly played with neither team having a large advantage. SHU used a 3-0 run on a kill from
Joanna Forrest, a block from Forrest and
Catie Flohr and a
Kendyl Wagner ace to take a 14-12 lead. Two kills from
Payton Rodberg and a
Maddie Stout ace pushed the SHU lead to 21-16.
Elizabeth Kolkowski and
Emma Meurer combined on a block to make it 22-16. Flohr gave SHU a 1-0 lead with a kill in the 25-23 first set win.
East Stroudsburg evened the match at one with a 25-17 second set win. SHU answered right back to take a 2-1 lead with a 25-17 third set win. After a slow start, the Griffins used a 5-0 run to take an 8-6 lead. A pair of 3-0 runs extended the Griffins lead to 15-9. Rodberg ended the set with a kill as SHU led 2-1.
The Warriors won the fourth set 25-15 and then won the match with a 15-8 fifth set win.
Flohr led SHU with 17 kills. Forrest added 11. Rodberg finished with 10.
Mallory Meinen led the offense with 29 assists. Rodberg led with 23 digs.
Kendyl Wagner added 19 digs.
