The Griffin wrestling team began its 2025-26 season on the road in Alliance, OH with the Mount Union Invitational on Saturday afternoon.  

The team had a successful start to the season as they placed second overall in the event with 159 team points from twelve different place winners.  

Jacob Sombronski was 5-2 on the day with a fourth place finish at 125 pounds.  He won one match by fall and another by tech fall.  The Griffins had two place winners at 133 pounds.  Jacob Braun was third with a 6-1 record.  He won three matches by fall.  Carter Putt was sixth with a 2-0 record after medical forfeits.  

Greg Shaulis placed 6th at 141 pounds.  He went 4-2 on the day with a win by fall, tech fall and major decision.  Ty Linsenbigler won the 149A pound weight class with a 4-0 record.  He had two wins by fall and one by tech fall.  SHU had two place winners in the 149B weight class.  Ryan Celachi was third with a 3-1 record and two wins by tech fall.  Cameron Higgins was fourth with a 3-2 record and a win by fall.  

Mike Zacur was second in the 157A weight class.  Mike went 3-1 with a win by tech fall.  Christian Hirak was second at 165 pounds.  He went 4-1 on the day with three wins by fall.  Kane Kettering was fourth at 174 pounds.  Kane was 3-1 with two wins by fall.  

Troy McClelland was 8th at 184 pounds with a 2-3 record.  He won a match by fall.  Michael Gibson was 3-3 on the day at 285 pounds for 8th place.  He had two wins by fall.

SHU will next compete in the Bob Del Rosa Ohio Intercollegiate next Sunday at Case Western.
