Box Score Seton Hill made the short trip to Indiana, PA on Saturday afternoon as they continued PSAC West play with a road matchup with the Crimson Hawks.
The Griffins used a late 9-0 run to tie the game but IUP hit a game winning three pointer as the buzzer to defeat the Griffins by the score of 59-56. SHU falls to 10-8 overall and 3-7 in the PSAC. IUP is now 9-8 overall and 5-5 in the PSAC.
Neither team got off to a fast start as the game was tied at four at the first media timeout of the half. Five straight points from
Kedrick Curtis gave the Griffins a 9-5 lead with 13 minutes left in the half. IUP scored five straight before
Edir Ortiz hit a pair of free throws to put SHU back in front 11-10.
Ryan Meis followed with a three pointer to give SHU a 14-12 lead midway through the first half.
Two free throws from Curtis gave SHU a 17-16 lead with 6:18 to play in the half. IUP responded with eight in a row before a
Gage Lattimore three cut the IUP lead to 24-20 with 4:26 to play. IUP took a 28-20 lead before
James Rice hit a runner at the buzzer to trim the lead to 28-22 at the halftime break.
After IUP scored the opening basket of the second half, SHU answered with five straight to trim the lead to 30-27 early in the half. IUP pushed their advantage out to eight points but a three from
Camden Brewer and two Curtis free throws cut the lead to 35-32 with 14:02 to play. Two more Curtis free throws cut the lead to one with 13:20 left. IUP used a 7-0 run over 1:36 to take a 42-34 lead with 11 minutes to play. Ortiz hit a three and
Gabe Gillespie followed with a layup as the Griffins cut the lead to 42-39 with 10:18 left.
The Crimson Hawks scored the next six points as they extended their lead to 48-39 with just over eight minutes to play. A basket from
Brian Belade and a Meis three cut the lead back to 48-44 with seven minutes remaining. The Crimson Hawks answered with a 6-1 run as they took their largest lead of the game, 54-45 with 4:52 to play. Four straight points from Curtis and two free throws from Meis cut the lead to 54-51 with 3:05 left. A three point play from Gillespie tied the score at 54 with 1:09 to play in regulation. An Ortiz put back tied the game at 56 with 24 seconds to play. IUP then hit a game winning three pointer at the buzzer for a 59-56 victory.
Curtis led the Griffins with 17 points. Ortiz had a double double of 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The Griffins will return home as they host Edinboro in another PSAC West contest on Wednesday evening.
