Cole Nets 1,000th Kill as Griffins Sweep Pair at Walsh

Seton Hill opened their 2024 season on the road at the Walsh/Malone Tournament on Friday and Saturday.  SHU opened at Walsh on Friday playing host Walsh in the first match then taking on Lake Erie in the nightcap.  

Paige Cole collected her 1,000th career kill as the Griffins used a reverse sweep to defeat Walsh in the opening match of the day before defeating Lake Erie 3-1 in the night cap to go 2-0 on the day.  

Walsh took the opening two sets by the scores of 25-13 and 31-29.  SHU cut the lead to 2-1 with a 26-24 third set win.  The Griffins evened the match with a 25-18 win in the fourth.  SHU then closed out the match with a 15-13 win in the fifth set.  

Cole led the Griffins with 24 kills.  Catie Flohr also reached the 20 kill plateau with 20.  Kaylee Mattera reached double figures with 12.  Abby Oesterling added 31 assists while Ella Deeter finished with 23.  Kendyl Wagner had 15 digs while Maddie Stout finished with 12.  

Lake Erie took the first set from the Griffins with a 26-24 victory.  SHU then took a 2-1 lead with 25-19 and 25-20 wins in the second and third set.  SHU ended the match in style with a 25-13 win in the fourth. 

Cole led SHU with 16 kills.  Flohr added 10.  Oesterling added 18 digs while Deeter finished with 11.  Stout reached double figures with 15 digs.  Deeter also had three aces.  

SHU will head to Malone to play Thomas More and Malone on Saturday.
