Griffins Drop Week 0 Contest at Fairmont State

Box Score Seton Hill began their 2024 football season on the road at Fairmont State in Week 0 action. 
 
It was all Fairmont State in the second half as they outscored the Griffins 42-14 in the second half in route to a 56-24 victory over the Griffins. 
 
Neither team was able to move the ball on their first drive of the game.  On Fairmont's second drive of the first quarter, they drove to the Seton Hill 17 yard line but Josh Cohen blocked the field goal attempt to end the drive.  The Falcons took the lead on a 12 yard touchdown run with 4:07 to play in the first quarter.  Late in the first quarter, Quinton Posey intercepted a ball and returned it to the Griffin 40 yard line. 
 
Early in the second quarter, the Griffins blocked a punt after a muffed snap to set up the offense on the FSU 35 yard line.  It did not take the Griffins long to score as Ky'Ron Craggette scored on the next play from 35 yards out to tie the score at seven with 10:52 left in the half.  The Griffins then took the lead on a 41 yard field goal from Jack Wagner with 5:27 to play in the half.  Fairmont responded with a nine play, 75 yard drive to retake the lead 14-10 with 2:07 to play.  SHU then drove to the FSU 10 yard line but could not score before the end of the half and the Falcons led 14-10 at the halftime break. 
 
The third quarter was all Falcons as they outscored the Griffins by the score of 21-0 to take a 35-10 lead over the Griffins.  Fairmont used a long run and two touchdown passes to increase their lead. 
 
Fairmont scored the opening touchdown of the fourth quarter as they extended their lead to 42-10.  SHU answered right back with a 63 yard touchdown pass from Jake Cruz to Ethan Fame which trimmed the lead to 42-17 with 11:32 to play in the contest.  Fairmont answered right back with a pair of touchdowns of their own.  Tre Mason capped off the scoring with a three yard touchdown run with 2:47 to play. 
 
Cruz threw for 238 yards and a touchdown.  Todd Phillips had three catches for 94 yards.  Fame had four catches for 93 yards and a touchdown.  Craggette added 95 yards on the ground and one touchdown.  Demetri Whitehead led the defense with seven tackles.
 
SHU will play their home opener next Thursday evening when they host Ohio Dominican for a 7 PM kickoff.
