Griffins, Marizzaldi Record Win #700 in 3-1 Win at Florida Southern

Box Score Seton Hill closed out their Florida Spring Break trip with a second game against Florida Southern in Lakeland on Saturday afternoon.  SHU played the first game on Friday afternoon. 
 
Game two in Lakeland was a memorable one for Coach Marizzaldi and the Griffin baseball program as the Griffins rallied for a 3-1 victory over the Mocs for the 700th win for Marizzaldi and the Seton Hill baseball program.  SHU is now 9-5 on the season.    
 
Florida Southern got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning.  They scored without the ball leaving the infield.  After a strikeout, an infield single got the inning started.  The runner moved to second on a ground out and then to third on a wild pitch.  The Mocs took advantage of an error to score the first run of the contest. 
 
The game remained 1-0 until the top of the eighth inning when Braden Durham hit a solo shot to left center field to tie the score at one. 
 
The Griffins took the lead in the top of the ninth.  With one out, pinch hitter Gage Wheaton singled.  He moved to third on a single from Max MandlerOwen Sabol followed with a single on a 2-0 pitch to give the Griffins a 2-1 lead.  Noah Sweeney followed with an RBI single to increase the Griffins lead to 3-1. 
 
Sabol led the offense with two hits.  Aidan Layton threw 6.2 innings and struck out eight.  Evan Rossi threw 1.1 scoreless to earn the win.  Christian Zilli struck out two to earn the save. 
 
The Griffins will return home to open a three game set with Grand Valley State with a single game on Friday followed by a doubleheader on Saturday.
