Seton Hill began their spring break trip with a road matchup at St Leo on Monday evening under the lights.
St Leo won a wild contest in which each team had runs of +8 goals as they defeated the Griffins 18-16. SHU falls to 0-2 to start the season while St Leo improves to 2-2. Â
The wild contest features a 13-3 Seton Hill run and a 9-1 St Leo run. There were plenty of cards in the contests as the teams combined for 15 cards, 11 were called on the Griffins. SHU had two goals waved off as well in the contest. Â
St Leo jumped out to a 5-1 lead over the Griffins 13 minutes into the contest.Â
Makenna Twombly scored the one SHU goal in the run.Â
Carleigh Sutfin scored with 32 seconds to go to cut the lead to 5-2. Â
Ruby DePalma scored the first two goals of the second quarter for the Griffins as they trailed 6-4 with 11:07 to play.Â
Skylar Orlowski scored three straight in three minutes as the Griffins took a 7-6 lead with six minutes to play before the half. After a Lion goal, Sutfin and
Ella Wroblewski scored to give SHU a 9-7 lead at the break. Â
Orlowski,
Mila Udovicic and DePalma scored to open the second half and open a 12-7 lead for SHU. After another Lion goal, the Griffins got goals from
Piper Conlan and
Brooklyn Miller to lead 14-8 with 9:26 to play. At this point the game changed as the Lions scored three straight up goals to trim the lead to 14-11. Sutfin scored with 4:34 to play in the third to extend the lead to 15-11. The Lions scored the next four, three up goals to tie the score at 15 heading to the fourth. Â
St Leo scored the first two before Sutfin cut the lead to 17-16 with 7:25 to play. Â
Sutfin and Orlowski each scored four and added an assist. DePalma scored three and added an assist. Udovicic had a goal and assist.
SHU will travel to #9 Flagler on Friday afternoon. Â
