Griffins, Rock Tie 2-2

Seton Hill closed out the regular season with a PSAC West matchup on the road at Slippery Rock on Friday afternoon.

SHU held a pair of leads but the Rock rallied each time and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.  The Griffins are now 10-4-4 overall and 5-2-3 in the west while the Rock is 8-4-4 overall and 5-2-3 in the west.  SHU played down a man for nearly 70 minutes after a questionable red card call early in the first half.

The Griffins took an early lead in the ninth minute on a goal from Nils Heinrich.  He found a rebound of a Toby Dance shot to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead.  With about ten minutes to play in the first half, the Rock tied the contest at one.  The game remained 1-1 at the halftime break.  SHU outshot the Rock 7-3 in the first half.

With a little less than ten minutes to play in the contest, the Griffins retook the lead.  Ron Klinger connected with a Brice Gandhi free kick to give SHU a 2-1 lead with 9:02 to play.  Less than four minutes later, the Rock tied the score at two on a cross from the goal line that found the back of the net.

Heinrich led the Griffins with a pair of shots on goal.  Jonathan Leary made two saves in net for SHU.

With CalU's 1-0 win over Lock Haven, SHU clinches the third and final playoff spot in the PSAC Tournament.  SHU will travel to second seed Slippery Rock on Monday at 2 PM for the PSAC Quarterfinal.
