The Griffin wrestling teams returned to the mats on Sunday at the Bob Del Rosa Intercollegiate in Cleveland, OH. The event was hosted by Case Western.
Five Griffins placed in the event. Two Griffins placed in the open event while three Griffins placed in the Freshmen and Sophomore event.
In the Open event,
Jacob Gardner was fourth at 133 pounds and
Ty Linsenbigler was fifth at 149 pounds. In the freshmen and sophomore event,
Jacob Braun was fourth at 133 pounds,
Christian Hirak was fourth at 157 pounds and
Collin Hearn was sixth at 165 pounds.
Gardner won his opening match by the score of 18-3. He followed that with a win by fall (3:42) in the quarterfinals. Jabob then dropped the semifinal and third place match for a fourth place finish. Linsenbigler dropped his opening match by an 8-3 decision. He then won three straight matches for a fifth place finish. He picked up a forfeit win, a 16-11 win and a 17-0 tech fall in the fifth place match.
Braun won by fall (6:22) in his first match. He then won 15-11 in the quarterfinals. Jacob then dropped the semifinal and third place match for a fourth place finish. Hirak opened with a 4-2 win. He followed with a 15-3 major decision in the quarterfinals. Christian then dropped hard fought semifinal and third place match by single points, 3-2 in the semis and 10-9 in the third place match. Hearn opened with a 13-0 major decision. He dropped the next match before picking up two wins for a sixth place finish. He won by major decision 15-5 and then by fall (:49).
