Volleyball Defeats Point Park in Non Conference Play

The Griffins took a break from PSAC West action as they hosted Point Park in a non conference matchup on Tuesday evening in the McKenna Center.  

Seton Hill won the first two sets and then won the match in four as they defeated the Pioneers 3-1.  SHU improves to 17-3 overall.  

SHU built an early 7-2 lead in the first set of action.  Catie Flohr had two kills and a block in the early action.  Point Park got to within three at 19-16 but back to back blocks from Ella Deeter and Flohr and an Abby Oesterling ace gave SHU a 23-16 lead.  SHU won the first set by a 25-17 score.  

The Griffins started fast in the second set as well behind the serve of Kendyl Wagner and two kills from Flohr as SHU took a 6-1 lead.  The Griffins then used a 4-0 and 7-0 run late in the set to extend their lead.  Keira Dunn served six straight points in the second run.  SHU took a 2-0 lead with a 25-16 second set win. 

For the third straight set, the Griffins built an early lead.  The Griffins led 14-7 midway thru the set.  Point Park battled back and outscored the Griffins 18-8 the rest of the set to cut the Griffins lead to 2-1.  Two kills from Payton Rodberg gave SHU an early 4-1 lead in the fourth set.  Three Elysia Smith kills extended the lead to 19-12.  The Griffins closed out the match with two kills from Rodberg and a Flohr kill as they won the set 25-18.

Flohr led the Griffins with 12 kills.  Rodberg, Deeter and Emma Meurer each added nine kills.  Smith finished with seven and Wagner added six.  Oesterling had 33 assists to lead the offense.  Wagner had a pair of aces.  Oesterling led the Griffins with 10 digs.  Wagner, Deeter and Smith each added nine.  Maddie Stout finished with eight,

SHU will return to PSAC West play on Friday evening as they host IUP.
