The Griffin wrestling team took a break from PSAC Dual meet action to take part in the Jim White Duals at Washington & Jefferson on Saturday afternoon.
SHU dropped the opener to Lycoming, 24-18 before defeating host W&J 38-9 in the nightcap. SHU is now 5-6 overall. Â
Against Lycoming, the Griffins cut the lead to 6-4 with a 13-2 major decision from
Kyle Burkholder at 133 pounds. After three straight Lycoming wins, the Griffins responded with three straight wins. Â
Collin Hearn picked up a 19-4 tech fall win at 165 pounds.Â
Kane Kettering followed with a 5-2 decision at 174 pounds.Â
Riley O'Mara closed out the three straight wins with a win by fall. Â
In the W&J match, the Griffins got off to a fast start with three straight wins by fall.Â
William Burgess won by fall at 125 pounds, Burkholder won by fall at 133 pounds and
Nikolas Ferra won by fall at 141 pounds. Hearn and Kettering each won by decision to give SHU a 24-9 lead. Hearn won 7-1 and Kettering picked up an 8-2 win. O'Mara won by forfeit.Â
Brendan Finnerty picked up an 18-1 tech fall win and
Ethan Cain won by a 5-1 score to close out the match.
The Griffins will travel to Pitt Johnstown for another PSAC Dual on Friday evening. Â
