Seton Hill hit the road for the second straight game in PSAC West play as they made the trip to Clarion for a matchup with the Golden Eagles.
The Griffins scored 51 second half points as they defeated the Golden Eagles by the score of 88-72. SHU is now 8-7 overall and 5-4 in the PSAC.
The Griffins scored the first six points of the contest on baskets from
Abby Mankins, Corrine Eisner and
Christiane Frye. After a Clarion basket, the Griffins went on a 10-0 run to build a 16-2 lead with 4:13 to play in the quarter. Frye had four points during the run. Clarion cut the lead to 11 before back to back baskets from Helene and
Hallie Cowan extended the lead to 23-8 with 2:18 to play. SHU led 28-16 at the end of the first quarter.
Hallie Cowan hit a three to open the scoring for the Griffins in the second quarter. Clarion then went on a 9-0 run to trim the Griffins lead to 31-28 with 6:15 left in the half. Clarion tied the score at 33 at the 4:02 mark of the quarter. Clarion led 39-37 at the end of the first half.
The third quarter was all Seton Hill as they outscored Clarion 25-9. A three point play from Mankins gave SHU a 47-41 lead with 7:46 to play in the third. Over the final three minutes of the quarter, the Griffins outscored Clarion 8-1 to take a 62-48 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Hallie Cowan scored the first five points of the fourth quarter as the Griffins extended their lead to 67-48. Frye scored nine of the Griffins final eleven points to help close out the win.
Frye posted a double double to lead the Griffins with 24 points and 10 rebounds. She also added seven steals and five assists.
Hallie Cowan tossed in 20 points. Mankins also reached double figures with 11 points.
The Griffins will continue PSAC West action next Saturday afternoon when they host Mercyhurst.
