The Griffin track and field teams kicked off 2024 at the Muskingum Meet #1 on Saturday afternoon at Muskingum University.
Both teams had a good showing as they returned to the track after the Christmas holiday. The Griffin women had five first place finishes and 26 top eight finishes. The men's team had two first place finishes and 20 top eight finishes.
Highlighting the day were two new school records for the 4x2 relay teams. The women's team of
Koschinya Jefferson,
Ayiana Martin,
Anna Roberts and
Layla Robertson broke the school record with a first place finish in a time of 1:49.84. The men's 4x2 team of
Joseph Piper,
Andrew Campbell,
Blaise Verrastro and
Jacy Willis was also first with a time of 1:31.99.
Natasha Bernett had two first place finishes on the day. She was first in the 60 hurdles and triple jump. Natasha had a time of 8.84 in the hurdles and hit a mark of 10.86 meters in the triple jump. She was also fifth in the shot put (11.19m).
Sarah Gilliam was first in the weight throw with a toss of 14.51 meters. She was third in the shot put (11.87m).
Carly Yanek was first in the 200 with a time of 27.25. She was also third in the 60 dash in a time of 8.33.
John Giansante was first in the triple jump. He hit a mark of 13.56 meters. John was also fourth in the long jump (6.37m) and sixth in the 60 (7.21).
Isabella Myles was fourth in the mile run with a time of 5:29.40 and
Kate Pipilo was sixth with a time of 5:36.45. Jefferson placed second in the 60 hurdles in a time of 9.79 while Robertson was fifth with a time of 10.05. Jefferson was also second in the 200 (27.36) and fourth in the shot put (11.56m). Robertson was fourth in the 200 (27.67).
Roberts was second in the 60 with a time of 8.31 while Martin was fourth with a time of 8.41.
Isabelle McCabe was fifth in the 1000 with a time of 3:19.01.
Jordan Fairman was sixth with a time of 3:19.73 and
Allison O'Brien was eighth with a time of 3:27.46.
Haley Brenny was third in the 200 with a time of 27.61.
The 4x4 relay team of
Anessa Pigula, Pipilo, Myles and
Marissa Manko was second with a time of 4:35.50.
Baine Snyder was second in the high jump, clearing 1.50 meters. She as also third in the pole vault (2.75m).
Keelin Becker was seventh in the high jump with a mark of 1.35 meters.
Tiffany Zelmore was eighth in the shot put with a toss of 10.69 meters.
Piper was second in the 200 with a time of 22.61 and third in the 60 dash (6.99). Willis was fourth in both the 60 and 200. He ran 7.14 in the 60 and 23.31 in the 200.
Kaden Crump was third in the mile in a time of 4:39.67. Campbell was second in the 60 dash with a mark of 6.93. Ethan Barrick was fifth in the 1000 with a time of 2:46.28.
Kamsi Obuekwe was sixth (2:48.55) and
Andrew Smith was eighth (2:51.62). Verrastro was fifth in the 200 with a time of 23.42.
The 4x4 relay team of Barrick, Crump, Obuekwe and Smith was third in a time of 3:41.96.
Ben Kissell was third in the pole vault, clearing 4.10 meters. Malwandla Baloyi was third in the high jump, clearing 1.90 meters.
Angelo Allen was fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 14.57 meters.
Jameson Kutz was fifth in the long jump (6.19m) and
Theologos Petridis was sixth (6.05m).
The Griffins will run at Youngstown State next weekend.
