The Griffins opened PSAC West play on Wednesday evening as they traveled to Erie for a matchup with Mercyhurst under the lights.
Mercyhurst scored a goal early in the second half and one late in the half for a 2-0 victory over the Griffins. SHU falls to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the PSAC West.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first half as both teams played very defensively limiting shots on both sides.
The Lakers got on the scoreboard just over five minutes into the second half. Mercyhurst extended their lead to 2-0 with a goal with less than eight minutes to play in the contest.
Riley Baker led the Griffins with two shots, one on goal.
Sydney Caldwell made two saves for the Griffins.
SHU will continue PSAC West play on Saturday when they host Slippery Rock.
