The Griffins returned to the court less than 16 hours after their Friday match as they hosted Mercyhurst on Saturday afternoon in a PSAC West match.
Freshmen
Catie Flohr and
Kaylee Mattera led the Griffins to a sweep of the Lakers. SHU is now 7-9 overall and 1-3 in the west while the Lakers drop to 3-9 overall and 1-3 in the west.
Seton Hill jumped on the Lakers in the first set with a 25-16 win. SHU finished the set with 18 kills while hitting .378. The Lakers battled the Griffins in the second set but SHU used a 5-1 run late in the set to take control. The Griffins got kills from five different players in the final ten points of the set for a 25-23 win.
The Griffins jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the third set. Mercyhurst fought back and cut the Griffins lead to 21-20 late in the set. The Griffins used two kills from Flohr, a Laker error and an ace from
Paige Cole to close out the match.
Flohr led SHU with 15 kills. Mattera also reached double figures with 13 kills. Cole added eight kills and
Mara Yahner finished with seven.
Abby Oesterling led the offense with 37 assists.
Maddie Stout paced SHU with eight digs. Cole and Oesterling each added seven.
The Griffins will travel to Slippery Rock on Tuesday for another PSAC West match.
