Seton Hill continued play at the 2023 NCAA Atlantic Super Regional in Millersville as they played on Saturday afternoon looking to remain alive in the tournament, needing two wins to advance to Cary, NC while Millersville needed just one win.
The Marauders scored ten times over the middle four innings as they were able to eliminate the Griffins from the NCAA Tournament with an 11-6 win over the Griffins. Seton Hill finishes the season with a 48-13 record while Millersville advances to Cary, NC and the Division II Baseball Championships with a 45-8 record.
Millersville got off to a good start as the visiting team in game one of the day as they scored a run on two hits in the top of the first inning.
The Griffins took the lead in the bottom of the second.
Logan Vietmeier drew a leadoff walk and
Owen Sabol singled to put two runners on. After a strikeout,
Noah Sweeney singled to tie the game at one. Both Sabol and Sweeney stole a bag and scored on a clutch two out, two RBI single from
Joe Fiedor.
SHU added another run in the third inning.
Vincenzo Rauso led off with a double and moved to third on a
Jack Oberdorf single. Rauso scored on a sacrifice fly from Vietmeier as SHU took a 4-1 lead.
Millersville cut the Griffins lead to 4-3 with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning. They retook the lead with a three spot in the top of the fifth inning, the big hit a two run homer to left with two outs that put the Marauders in front 6-4.
SHU got one of those runs back in the bottom half of the inning. Sabol singled with one out and moved to second on a wild pitch. He scored on a
Max Mandler single as SHU cut the lead to 6-5.
The Marauders took advantage of a pop up that landed on the pitchers mound as they were able to score three times and increase their lead to 9-5 in the sixth inning. SHU loaded the bases with no one out in the bottom half of the inning but a 5-2-3 double play and a ground out kept the Griffins off the scoreboard.
Millersville added two runs in the seventh inning on a two run homer as they increased their lead to 11-5.
SHU made a little noise in the ninth. Vietmeier doubled with one out and scored on a Sabol single.
Sabol led the Griffins with four hits. Rauso finished with two hits. Fiedor led SHU with two RBI.
