Seton Hill opened play in the 2023 NCAA Tournament with a first round matchup with top seed and #1 ranked West Chester at Vonnie Gros Field in West Chester on Friday afternoon.
The Golden Rams jumped out to a 12-6 halftime lead and defeated the Griffins by a 21-8 score in the NCAA Atlantic Regional Semifinal. The Griffins end the season at 15-5 while West Chester improves to 20-0.
West Chester opened the game scoring the first three goals of the game as they took a 3-0 lead just three minutes into the contest.
Skylar Orlowski got the Griffins on the board in the nine minute mark. West Chester then outscored the Griffins 4-2 over the remainder of the quarter.
Megan Bunker and
Grace Agnello each scored goals for SHU in the first quarter.
The Golden Rams scored the opening goal of the second quarter before two straight goals from SHU, one each from
Elizabeth Tamasitis and
Carleigh Sutfin trimmed the lead to 8-5 with ten minutes to play in the half.
Hannah Thompson scored with 7:48 to play in the half to cut the lead to 9-6 but the Golden Rams scored the final three goals to take a 12-6 halftime lead.
Piper Conlan scored with 13:18 left in the third to trim the lead to 13-7. West Chester followed that with four straight before Tamasitis scored with just under 30 seconds to play in the quarter, cutting the lead to 17-8.
West Chester scored the final four goals of the contest in the fourth quarter.
Tamasitis led SHU with two goals and an assist. Conlan finished with a goal and two assists. Bunker and Orlowski each scored a goal and added an assist.
