Griffins Win Battle for Top Spot in PSAC West Standings

Seton Hill hosted Indiana (PA) in an important PSAC matchup that was a battle for the top spot in the PSAC West standings on Wednesday afternoon in Greensburg.

The Griffins jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first period and defeated the Crimson Hawks by the score of 15-12.  SHU jumps into sole possession of first place in the PSAC West standings with a 6-0 record.  IUP falls to 5-1 in the PSAC.  SHU is now 8-3 overall while IUP is 7-4.  

SHU took a 1-0 lead early in the contest when Makayla Kintner scored just over a minute into the contest.  Less than a minute later, Megan Bunker scored to give SHU a 2-0 lead.  Less than a minute later, Piper Conlan scored at the 12:25 mark to give SHU a 3-0 lead.  Elizabeth Tamasitis scored on a free position shot as SHU built a 4-0 lead less than four minutes into the contest.  Kintner scored her second of the game at the 8:52 mark of the quarter as SHU took a 5-0 lead.  

Just over a minute into the second quarter, Tamasitis scored her second of the game to extend the SHU lead to 6-0.  IUP scored twice in 40 seconds to trim the SHU lead to 6-2 with 11:37 to play before the half.  Skylar Orlowski and Mila Udovicic scored goals around a Crimson Hawk goal as the Griffins took an 8-3 lead into the halftime break.  

The third quarter of the game was the highest scoring quarter as the teams combined for nine goals.  IUP scored the first goal of the quarter but Tamasitis answered less than a minute later to keep the SHU advantage at five.  Grace Agnello scored with 9:44 left in the quarter as SHU built a 10-4 lead.  After another IUP goal, Agnello and Brooklyn Miller scored for SHU as the Griffins led 12-5 with 4:02 to play.  IUP cut the lead to 12-6 but Orlowski scored with 13 seconds left to push the SHU lead to 13-6.  IUP got one at the buzzer to cut the SHU lead to 13-7.  

Agnello scored her third of the game to answer an IUP goal and extend the SHU lead to 14-8 with 14:04 to play.  IUP scored the next three goals to cut the SHU advantage to 14-11 with 7:58 to play.  Udovicic extended the SHU lead to 15-11 with a goal with 2:43 to play.  IUP scored with 2:10 left but the Griffins got the next draw control and were able to run off most of the quarter.  

Tamasitis and Agnello led the Griffins with three goals.  Orlowski added two goals and three assists.  Udovicic finished with two goals and an assist.  Kintner added two goals, three caused turnovers, three draw controls and two ground balls.  Kyleigh Hessian recorded nine saves in cage to earn the win.

SHU will continue PSAC West play on Saturday when they travel to Edinboro.
