The Seton Hill women's lacrosse team made the trip to Indiana (PA) looking to complete the PSAC Western Division Schedule with a perfect record and earn their third straight PSAC West Title.
The Griffins used a strong second quarter and pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 14-6 victory over the Crimson Hawks. SHU finishes the regular season with a 14-3 record and a perfect 12-0 mark in the PSAC West. The Griffins clinched their third straight PSAC Western Division title with the win.
Carleigh Sutfin got the Griffins on the board just 18 seconds into the first quarter. IUP answered right back with a goal less than a minute later to tie the score at one.
Megan Bunker scored at the 11:53 mark but IUP came right back nine seconds later to tie the score at two.
Elizabeth Tamasitis scored with 3:02 to play in the first quarter as the Griffins took a 3-2 lead.
Sutfin again opened the scoring for the Griffins in the second quarter with a goal at the 13:38 mark.
Hannah Thompson followed with a goal to increase the Griffins lead to 5-2 with 9:53 to play. Midway through the quarter, IUP scored to cut the Griffins lead to 5-3.
Skylar Orlowski pushed the Griffins lead back to three at the 4:40 mark and
Mila Udovicic scored with 20 seconds to play in the half as SHU carried a 7-3 lead into the halftime break.
Less than two minutes into the second half, Orlowski extended the Griffins lead to 8-3. IUP scored the only other goal of the quarter as SHU took an 8-4 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Griffins put the game away in the fourth as they scored the first five goals of the quarter.
Alaina TeSelle scored first at the 13:19 mark. Sutfin and Orlowski scored just over a minute apart as the Griffins built their lead to 11-4 with 9:26 to play. Thompson scored her second and
Ella Wroblewski followed with a goal at the 4:42 mark as SHU took a 13-4 lead. Sutfin closed out the scoring for the Griffins at the 2:13 mark.
Seton Hill outshot IUP 37-22 in the contest.
Sutfin led the offense with four goals. Orlowski added three goals and an assist. Thompson scored twice. Udovicic finished with a goal and three assists.
Kyleigh Hessian tied a career high with 12 saves. Udovicic also caused four turnovers and had two draw controls.
Elizabeth Tamasitis added three caused turnovers.
The Griffins earned the top spot in the PSAC West and will receive a bye until the PSAC Semifinals. Seton Hill will play the winner of the PSAC Quarterfinal between East Stroudsburg and Kutztown next Friday, May 5
th in West Chester.
