Griffin heavyweight John Meyers took part in the 2023 NCAA Division II Wrestling National Championships on Friday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Meyers lost in the blood round as he came up just one win short of All American honors.   

He opened with a matchup with a matchup with Cale Gray of Indianapolis in the first round of the bracket.  Gray defeated Meyers by the score of 10-2.  

In the first consolation round, Meyers matched up with Luke Tweeton of UMary.  Meyers earned a hard fought 3-1 sudden victory win to advance to the blood round of the tournament where he faced eighth seed Juan Edmond-Holmes of Lander.  Meyers was down 3-2 in the third period and had to go for it but alllowed a takedown and then was defeated by fall to end his championship.
