Box Score 2 The Griffins began play in the Glenville State Tourney with a pair of games on Saturday afternoon. Seton Hill took on WV Wesleyan in the first game and closed out the day with a matchup with Fairmont State.
Seton Hill got a walk off win in game one as they defeated WV Wesleyan 1-0 in eight innings. Fairmont State then walked off the Griffins in eight innings by a 3-2 score in game two. SHU is now 3-1 on the season.
The Griffins and Bobcats hooked up in a pitchers dual in game one. Neither team was able to crack the scoreboard in the first four innings. The Griffins had just one single from
Mackenzie Zang in the second inning while the Bobcats had singles in the third and fourth innings. SHU starter
Lauren Dellett had six strikeouts through four innings.
The pitchers dual continued through the seventh innings as neither team was able to crack the scoreboard. Each team had just two hits in the first seven innings.
Wesleyan got runners to second and third with one out in the eighth but Dellett was able to get a strike out and line out to end the threat.
The Griffins were able to finally crack the scoreboard in the eighth. With one out
Nina Grandey singled. She moved to third on a
Brooklyn Fukushima single. The Griffins then walked off the Bobcats on a squeeze play by
Grace Paredes that scored Grandey who beat the throw to the plate.
Dellett went the distance to earn the win. She gave up four hits while striking out nine. She only allowed one walk.
Fairmont State took a 1-0 lead over the Griffins in the bottom of the first inning of game two.
The Griffins tied the score at one in the top of the third inning.
Chloe Elliott led off the inning with a single. Pinch runner
Morgan Hershberger moved to second inning on a sacrifice bunt from
Maddy Taylor. With two outs, Grandey singled to score Hershberger and tie the score at one.
The game remained tied at one and moved into extra innings with the international tiebreaker used.
Taylor was placed on second to start the inning and moved to third on
Bre Athey's sacrifice bunt. Grandey followed with another RBI single to give SHU a 2-1 lead.
Fairmont State scored two times in the bottom of the eighth inning as they walked off the Griffins by a 3-2 score. The had three singles in the inning.
Grandey and Elliott each had two hits in the contest.
Seton Hill will conclude the tourney with games against Glenville State and WV State on Sunday.
