Seton Hill closed out the regular season with a PSAC West matchup with #16 Mercyhurst on Wednesday evening in the McKenna Center.
The #16 Lakers were able to pull away in the second half for an 84-62 victory over the Griffins. SHU falls to 16-12 overall and 11-11 in the PSAC while Mercyhurst improves to 21-4 overall and 17-4 in the PSAC.
The Griffins have earned the fifth seed in the PSAC and will travel to #4 seed California (PA) on Monday in the first round of the PSAC Tournament.
Seton Hill took an early 5-4 lead on a three pointer from
Sean Dillon just over two minutes into the contest. The Lakers responded with 10 straight to take a 14-5 lead with 15 minutes remaining in the half.
Ryan Meis led a 9-0 run from the Griffins as he scored seven points to tie the score at 14 with 12:29 to play. Back to back layups from Dillon and
Drew Green gave SHU an 18-16 lead midway through the half.
The Griffins were able to push their lead to five points, 25-20, after a three point play from
Samuel Tabe and a basket from
Caleb Whitaker. That would be the last lead the Griffins would hold as the Lakers retook the lead and built it to as many as 10 points before settling for a 41-34 halftime lead.
Whitaker's jumper five minutes into the second half trimmed the Lakers lead to 49-43. The Lakers then scored the next eight points to extend their lead to 14 points and would not look back in the win over the Griffins.
Meis led the Griffins with 14 points. Dillon and Tabe each reached double figures with 10 points.
The Griffins will begin the PSAC Playoffs on Monday when they travel to California (PA) for a first round matchup. Game time will be determined after Saturday's games.
