Seton Hill returned to the mats at the Purple Raider Open in Alliance, OH on Sunday.

The Griffins had four wrestlers place in the top eight in the event, including John Meyers who won the 285 pound bracket.  Brendan Finnerty placed fourth at 197 pounds wrestling unattached.  Nick Whittington was sixth at 197 pounds and William Burgess placed in the top eight at 133 pounds.  

Meyers won his bracket by going 6-0 in the tournament.  John opened the day with a win by fall in his preliminary match.  Meyers picked up a major decision and a decision to advance to the quarterfinals.  In the quarterfinals, Meyers won by fall over Wyatt Bailey of Ashland.  John then defeated Justin Jaeckin of Cleveland State 8-1 in the semifinals.  Meyers then defeated Josh Terrill in the finals by a 3-2 score.

Finnerty won four straight matches in the consolation round to advance to the third place match.  He had a win by fall, one by major decision and two by decision to move into the third place match.  He dropped the third place match.  

Whittington won three straight matches in the consolation round as he advanced to the fifth place match.  He won by fall, medical default and decision before falling in the consolation semifinals and fifth place match to place sixth.  

Burgess won a match in the championship round by decision before falling by decision in the quarterfinals.  He picked up a win in the consolation round before falling in the consolation round five.  

Kyle Burkholder, Nolan Daerr and Brandon Matthews each picked up a win in their weight bracket.  

The Griffins will wrestle at Millersville next Saturday afternoon.
