Seton Hill opened PSAC Tournament play with a first round matchup with third seed from the East Bloomsburg on Wednesday afternoon at Veterans Park in Quakertown, PA.
The Griffins led 3-2 after an inning but the Huskies scored the final seven runs of the contest as they sent the Griffins into the losers bracket of the tournament with a 9-3 win. SHU drops to 35-9 on the season while the Huskies improve to 26-16.
Bloomsburg took advantage of a Griffin error in the top of the first inning as they scored two unearned runs to take an early 2-0 lead over the Griffins.
The Griffins responded right back in their half of the first inning.
Jenna Osikowicz drew a walk with one out.
Lauren Dellett then drew a walk to put runners on first and second.
Brooke Cleland then followed with a three run bomb to center field on a 2-2 pitch that put the Griffins in front 3-2.
The Huskies scored four times in the top of the third inning to take a 6-3 lead over the Griffins. They loaded the bases with no one out and the Griffins were able to get two force outs at the plate but could not get the third out as the Huskies got a grand slam on a 3-2 pitch to take the lead.
Bloomsburg added two more runs in the top half of the sixth inning on another homer as they built their lead to 8-3.
The Griffins threatened in the sixth inning, loading the bases on back to back two out hits from
Mackenzie Zang and
Nichole McClendon and a walk to Osikowicz but a strikeout ended the threat.
McClendon led the Griffins with two hits.
The Griffins fall into the losers bracket of the tournament where they will play an elimination game on Thursday afternoon at 3 PM.
