Seton Hill again played another elimination game in the Division II Softball Championship as they battled Cal State Dominguez Hills in Denver, Colorado.
Cal St Dominguez Hills scored five runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning as they defeated the Griffins by the score of 9-6 to eliminate the Griffins from the tournament. SHU ends the season with a 42-12 record.
Nichole McClendon walked and
Jenna Osikowicz doubled to put runners on second and third with no one out in the top of the first inning but a strikeout, pop up and strikeout ended the threat.
CSUDH scored a run after two outs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead over the Griffins.
Morgan Ryan was able to get out of a second and third, one out situation with a strikeout and fly out to end the second inning.
The Griffins broke through in the top of the third inning. McClendon singled to lead off the inning and Osikowicz walked to put runners on first and second. After an out,
Morgan Toal singled through the left side but McClendon was gunned down at the plate.
Brooklyn Fukushima then came through with a big RBI single to tie the game at one.
The Toros answered right back in the bottom half of the third inning with two runs, one of them being unearned to retake a 3-1 lead.
SHU sent 10 hitters to the plate in the top of the fourth inning and scored five times. After an out,
Nina Grandey,
Mackenzie Zang and McClendon each singled to load the bases. Osikowicz singled to score a run and cut the lead to 3-2. With two out, Toal laced a double down the left field line to score two and give SHU a 4-3 lead. Fukushima added an RBI single and the Griffins scored a run when
Lauren Dellett reached on an error to extend the lead to 6-3.
The Toros score a run in the bottom of the fifth inning after two outs to cut the Griffin lead to 6-4. They added five more runs in the sixth inning for a 9-6 win.
McClendon, Osikowicz, Toal and Fukushima each added two hits. Toal and Fukushima added two RBIs.
