Box Score The Griffins tried to avoid elimination when they battled second seed Adelphi on Friday evening in the Division II Softball Championships in Denver, Colorado on the campus of Metro State.

Seton Hill scored three times in the third and fifth innings as they defeated Adelphi by the score of 8-1 to advance in the NCAA Division II Softball Championships. SHU is now 42-11 on the season.Â

Both teams threatened in the second inning but a relay from
Alexis Bonatch to
Brooklyn Fukushima to
Grace Paredes nailed a runner at third to end the top of the second inning. Fukushima and
Brooke Cleland singled with one out in the bottom half of the inning but a double play ended the threat.Â

Morgan Ryan gave up two hits to lead off the third but she got out of the inning with two strikeouts and a pop out.Â

The bats came alive for the Griffins in the bottom of the third inning.Â
Nina Grandey opened the inning with a single. She moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from
Mackenzie Zang.Â
Nichole McClendon reached on a bunt base hit.Â
Jenna Osikowicz then tripled over the center fielders head to give SHU a 2-0 lead. Ryan followed with a double to the left center field gap to increase the lead to 3-0.Â

Adelphi got a run back in the top of the fifth inning with two two out hits.Â

The Griffins answered the Panther run with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the fifth. McClendon walked and moved to second when Osikowicz reached on a fielders choice. The runners stole second and third and McClendon scored when Ryan singled.Â
Morgan Toal added an RBI hit and pinch runner
Bre Athey scored when Paredes reached on an error to give SHU a 6-1 lead.

Grandey walked to lead off the sixth and moved to second on a wild pitch. McClendon singled and stole second and both runners later scored on a throwing error as SHU took an 8-1 lead.Â

Ryan retired the Panthers in order in the seventh to end the contest and move the Griffins on in the tournament.Â

Ryan earned her 19
th win of the season with a complete game effort. She allowed just one run while striking out five. McClendon and Ryan each had two hits. Ryan and Osikowicz each added two RBIs.Â

The Griffins will now play Cal St Dominguez Hills on Saturday afternoon at 4:30 PM eastern time in another elimination contest.Â
