The Griffins closed out their four game set with Mercyhurst with a home doubleheader in Greensburg on Saturday afternoon.
Seton Hill remained in the PSAC West playoff race with a sweep of the Lakers. SHU defeated Mercyhurst 7-6 in game one then rallied for a 3-2, 10 inning walk off win in game two. SHU improves to 29-15-1 overall and 13-11 in the PSAC West while the Lakers fall to 27-14 overall and 14-10 in the west.
The Griffins are now one game behind CalU and Mercyhurst in fifth place in the west. The top four teams in the PSAC West make the PSAC Tournament.
SHU scored seven unearned runs in the bottom of the second inning in game one.
Isaiah DiAndreth and
Vincenzo Rauso drew walks to lead off the inning. Both runners moved up on a fly out from
Owen Sabol.
Braden Durham then reached on a fielders choice with both DiAndreth and Rauso scoring on a throwing error on the Lakers.
Brandon Kline doubled to knock in Durham and give SHU a 3-0 lead.
Max Mandler and
Jack Oberdorf each had RBI hits before
Neal McDermott capped off the inning with a two run bomb to right field which put the Griffins in front 7-0.
The Lakers scored twice in the fifth inning to cut the SHU lead to 7-2. Mercyhurst got to within 7-6 in the seventh with runners on first and third and two outs but
Nash Bryan got the final out on a strikeout to end the threat and game.
Five different Griffins each had a hit in the win.
Marshall McGraw earned the win in relief. He went 2.2 innings.
The Griffins got on the board first in game two as well. With an out, DiAndreth singled. He was out on a fielders choice from Sabol. Sabol stole second and scored on a Durham single as SHU led 1-0.
Mercyhurst took the lead with a two run homer to left field in the top of the fourth inning.
The Lakers led 2-1 until the bottom of the seventh inning. Durham singled and stole second to lead off the inning. With two outs,
Max Mandler reached on a throwing error and Durham just beat the throw to the plate to tie the score at two.
The Griffins loaded the bases in the eighth with one out but a strikeout and fly out ended the inning.
SHU won the game in the tenth. DiAndreth opened the inning with a double that went over the head of the Laker left fielder. He advanced to third on a wild pitch. Sabol reached on an infield single that the Laker shortstop knocked down while playing in to keep DiAndreth at third. Durham then singled through the left side of the infield, scoring DiAndreth and giving the Griffins a 3-2 win.
Durham led SHU by going 4-4. DiAndreth added two hits.
Ian Korn worked a scoreless tenth to earn the win.
Blake Barker added three innings of scoreless relief.
SHU will host Alderson Broaddus on Tuesday afternoon in a non conference matchup before their final four game PSAC West set of the season with CalU next weekend.
