Baseball Swept on the Road at Gannon

Seton Hill continued PSAC West play on Friday afternoon in Erie looking to end a four game losing skid when they took on Gannon in a doubleheader.  

The Griffins were not able to hold an early lead in game one before getting walked off on a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning in a 7-6 loss in game one.  Gannon completed the sweep of the Griffins with an 8-2 win in game two as SHU dropped its sixth straight contest.  The Griffins are now 23-13-1 overall and 9-9 in the PSAC West while Gannon improves to 21-11 overall and 12-6 in the west.  

SHU took an early 1-0 lead in game one when Vincenzo Rauso homered with one out in the top of the first inning.  Gannon tied the score at one with two singles in the bottom half of the inning.  

The Griffins picked up two runs in the top of the third inning.  Noah Sweeney walked to start the inning.  Braden Durham and Rauso followed with singles to load the bases with no one out.  Jack Oberdorf reached on a fielders choice with Sweeney scoring on the play and Durham scoring on a throwing error on the play.  

Seton Hill extended their lead to 5-1 in the fourth inning.  Owen Sabol doubled to lead off the inning.  After two groundouts, Neal McDermott and Sweeney came through with two out RBI hits.  McDermott singled to score Sabol and Sweeney doubled to knock in McDermott and make it 5-1.  

Gannon used a leadoff walk and a homer to cut the lead to two in the bottom half of the fourth.  Two singles and a hit by pitch allowed Gannon to cut the lead to 5-4 in the fifth inning.  Another leadoff walk followed by three singles put Gannon in front 6-5 heading to the seventh inning.  

McDermott tied the game at six with a leadoff bomb in the top of the seventh inning.  Gannon was able to load the bases in the eighth and used a sacrifice fly to walk off the Griffins.  

Rauso and McDermott each had two hits for the Griffins.  

Gannon scored twice in the second and fourth innings of game two to take a 4-0 lead over the Griffins.  

SHU got on the board in the top of the sixth inning.  Rauso drew a two out walk before Oberdorf homered to right center field to cut the Gannon lead to 4-2.  

The Knights then added four unearned runs in the sixth inning as they took an 8-2 lead.  

The Griffins will look to split the four game set when they host Gannon in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
