Griffins Beat Lock Haven for 9th Straight Win

Seton Hill hosted Lock Haven Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference battle and rallied from early 2-0 and 5-4 deficits before holding on for a 7-6 victory to run the Griffins' winning streak to nine straight.

Miscues on each side allowed both teams to post runs in the first inning. A SHU error helped the Bald Eagles score a pair in the top of the frame. In the bottom of the inning, a leadoff error allowed Owen Sabol to reach first. He stole second and after two outs. Jack Oberdorf hammered a two-run homer to left to tie the score at 2-2. Neal McDermott then reached on an error and after he stole second, Drew Garth stroked a double to bring him home. That was followed by an RBI single from Max Mandler to put the Griffins on top 4-2.

The Bald Eagles plated a run in the third inning and then took a 5-4 lead in the fifth with a pair of runs. That lead was short-lived, as Seton Hill answered back in the bottom of that inning. After loading the bases with a walk and two singles, McDermott tied the game with a sacrifice fly. Garth then delivered again, lashing a two-out, two-run triple to lift SHU to a 7-5 lead.

After that, Seton Hill turned to their bullpen. Payton Faris threw a scoreless sixth but Lock Haven managed a run in the seventh to get within one at 7-6. In the eighth, Michael Marinchak stranded the trying run on third to keep it a one-run lead. Then in the ninth, Nash Bryan came on and after a one-out double, ended the game with a fly out and tapper back to the mound as he closed out his seventh save of the season. Brian Pirone threw one inning in relief and recorded the win to improve to 2-0 this season.

The Griffins made the most of their eight hits in the victory, which improved their record to 16-4-1. Garth's double and triple were the big blows, as he finished with three RBIs. Oberdorf's home run, his third of the season, was one of his two hits in the game, as he drove in two and scored two. Mandler had a pair of singles and one RBI as well.

Seton Hill will get back into PSAC West action this weekend when they take on IUP in a four-game series. The set opens Friday with a doubleheader at IUP and concludes Saturday with a twinbill at Seton Hill.
