Baseball Drops Third Straight in Florida

Seton Hill continued play in Florida with a matchup with Minnesota State Mankato on Thursday evening in Davenport at the NE Regional Complex.

For the second straight day the Griffins dropped a one run ballgame, this one a 5-4 loss to the Mavericks.  SHU falls to 6-4 on the season while MSU improves to 7-2.

Minnesota State scored twice in the bottom half of the first inning to take an early lead.  They used a double, a single and a one out two RBI double to take the lead.  It did not take the Griffins long to respond and tie the game.

Neal McDermott reached on an error to lead off the second.  Max Mandler singled to move McDermott to third base.  Isaiah DiAndreth followed with a ssacrifice fly to score McDermott and Tanner Froehlich doubled to score Mandler and tie the score at two.

The Mavs used an error and a double to score an unearned run in the third and take a 3-2 lead.  The Griffins then tied the game in the fifth.  With one out, Owen Sabol singled and stole second.  He scored on a Vincenzo Rauso single to tie the game at three.

Minnesota State took advantage of two SHU errors in the fifth to retake the lead.  They added a run in the seventh with a solo homer to extend the lead to 5-3.

Drew Garth homered with one out in the eighth to cut the lead in half to 5-4.

Sabol and Mandler each had two hits for the Griffins.

SHU will take on Notre Dame (OH) on Friday morning in Auburndale, FL.
