Seton Hill concluded their four game road trip with a make up contest against Slippery Rock in PSAC West action on Monday evening.
The Griffins built an early lead and continued to build on it throughout in a 60-45 victory over the Rock. SHU is now 19-7 overall and 13-4 in PSAC action while the Rock drops to 10-10 overall and 5-9 in PSAC play.
Less than three minutes into the contest, the Griffins jumped out to an early 8-1 lead behind two three pointers from
Rena Enterline and a basket from
Samantha Kosmacki. A layup from
Katie Nolan and a three point play from
Christiane Frye pushed the SHU lead to 13-4 with 3:18 to play in the quarter. The Griffins led 16-12 after one quarter of play.
Two Frye baskets gave the Griffins seven point leads midway through the second quarter. After the Rock cut the lead to three,
Madelyn Fischer hit a three to give SHU a 24-18 lead with 4:20 to play in the half. Baskets from Enterline and
Sonia Sarda pushed the advantage to eight points with a little over two minutes to play. The Rock hit a three to cut the advantage to five but two Nolan free throws and a
Cheyenne Trest three pointer just before the halftime buzzer gave SHU a 33-23 halftime lead.
Baskets from Trest and Nolan extended the SHU lead to 39-25 less than four minutes into the third quarter.
Courtney Tomas gave SHU a 15 point advantage with a three pointer midway through the quarter. The Rock battled back and cut the SHU lead to 46-36 at the end of the third quarter.
The teams exchanged baskets over the first half of the fourth quarter with the lead moving between seven and ten points. Back to back layups from Nolan and Kosmacki extended the SHU lead to twelve points and the Griffins were able to close out the game from the free throw line.
SHU held the Rock to just 27% shooting from the floor and 18% from three point land. SHU outrebounded the Rock 46-40 and the Griffins pulled down 13 offensive rebounds.
Nolan again led the Griffins with another double double performance. She finished with 13 points and 15 rebounds. Trest also reached double figures with 10 points. Both Frye and Tomas finished with nine points while Enterline added eight.
SHU will now host Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon in another PSAC West contest.
