Gannon Scores Win over Griffins

2/5/2022 4:35:00 PM

Box Score Seton Hill made their second trip to Erie this week on Saturday by traveling to Gannon for a PSAC West match-up. The Golden Knights made 70 percent of their three-point attempts and shot 56 percent from the floor in the first half in building up a big lead and going to a 95-64 victory over the Griffins.

A three-pointer by Jimmy Moon on SHU's first possession gave them a 3-2 lead. Drew Green got off to a quick start for the Griffins, scoring five early points and his traditional three-point play at the 14:33 mark of the half had Seton Hill within a basket at 11-9. But that's when the Knights heated up, as they hit threes on consecutive possessions to ignite a 22-4 spurt. Gannon drilled five treys during the run and finished the half shooting 70 percent (7-of-10) from the arc, as the hosts built up a 53-24 lead going into halftime.

In addition to trying to slow down a red-hot Gannon attack, the Griffins were plagued by early foul trouble. Their top two scorers coming into the contest, Samuel Tabe and Sean Dillon, had three fouls each by the intermission. Both issues would continue in the second half, damaging any hopes for a Seton Hill comeback. Dillon and Tabe, who eventually fouled out, both picked up their fourth fouls within the opening six minutes of the second half and the Knights continued to shoot well. Although they cooled off from the arc, Gannon made 15-of-29 attempts from the floor (52 percent) after halftime as they continued to pull away for the win.

Delivering a game-high 16 points for the Griffins was Miles Monchecourt, as he made 7-of-14 shots from the floor. He also matched Jaylen Stewart for the team-high in rebounds with five. Others reaching double figures in scoring was Ryan Meis with 14 and Moon with 11, while Michael Joiner dropped in seven points. Despite his foul issues, Dillon passed off six assists in the game.

Seton Hill has come to the bye week in their schedule, as they are off until Saturday, Feb. 12th, when they will start a two-game home stand. The Griffins will welcome Slippery Rock to the McKenna Center on the 12th for a 3 pm tip-off.
