The Griffins played their second straight PSAC Crossover matchup on Saturday evening with a road contest at Mansfield.

Mansfield pulled away from the Griffins in the second half in route to a 79-69 victory. SHU falls to 5-3 overall and 0-2 in the PSAC while Mansfield is now 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the PSAC.Â

SHU got four points from
Samuel Tabe as they took an early 8-6 lead. After a
James Rice three pointer, the Mountaineers hit two straight three pointers and added a free throw as they took a 15-11 lead at the 13:30 mark of the first half. Mansfield built their lead to 17-11 before the Griffins responded with a 7-2 run to cut the lead to 19-18 with 9:20 left in the half.Â

SHU tied the score at 22 on a
Caleb Whitaker basket with 7:52 to play in the half. Mansfield followed with five straight to take a 27-22 lead. The Mansfield lead remained between four and six points over the next four minutes and led 33-29 after two
Gabe Gillespie free throws with 3:56 left. SHU closed the half with a 6-2 run to tie the score at 35 heading to the halftime break.Â

Baskets from Gillespie, Whitaker and a free throw from
Michael Joiner put the Griffins in front 42-41 with 14:58 to play in the half. Mansfield responded with seven straight to retake the lead. Mansfield answered with a 12-3 run as they took a 53-45 lead with 11:16 to play.Â

The Mountaineers extended their lead to as many as 14 points down the stretch.Â
Jimmy Moon hit two three pointers late in the contest and Tabe added three points as the Griffins cut the lead to 73-66 with 48 seconds left. Mansfield hit their free throws down the stretch to earn the win.

Tabe led the Griffins with 20 points. Whitaker also reached double figures with 10 points. Gillespie finished with eight points.Â
