Griffins 26th in Collegiate Baseball DII Preseason Poll

After earning their eleventh NCAA Tournament appearance last season, the Griffin baseball team begins the 2023 season 26th in the Collegiate Baseball 2023 NCAA Division II Preseason Poll.  Last season, the Griffins finished the season with a 33-19-1 record and advanced to the Atlantic Region I final where they were defeated by West Chester, who won the Atlantic Regional and advanced to the NCAA Division II Baseball Championships. 

The defending national champion North Greenville tops the 2023 preseason poll.  Southern Arkansas and Tampa are second and third.  Columbus State and Wingate round out the top five.  Other Atlantic Regional teams in the rankings include West Chester at #10, East Stroudsburg at #19, Charleston (WV) at #32 and Millersville at #34.  Slippery Rock, Gannon, Mercyhurst and California (PA) are receiving votes in the poll.

The Griffins will play four teams in the top 40 this season, all in Florida during their spring break trip.  SHU will face #3 Tampa, #33 Wayne State, #35 Minnesota State and #37 Florida Southern.  

Seton Hill will open the 2023 season with a three game set in Cary, NC against the University of Findlay on February 18 and 19.  SHU will then host Walsh the following weekend for a three game set.  Seton Hill will travel to Florida for their spring trip from March 4th - 11th.  PSAC West play begins the weekend of March 24-25 with a four game set with California (PA).  SHU closes out PSAC West play against Mercyhurst the weekend of May 4 and 5.  The PSAC Tournament will be played in Slippery Rock with the NCAA Atlantic Regionals and Super Regionals to follow in mid to late May.  The 2023 NCAA Baseball Championships will be in Cary, NC from June 3rd- 10th.

Several Griffins were named to the Blue Chip List of Division II players for 2023 in the Collegiate Baseball Magazine Collegiate Preview Edition.  Senior third baseman Jack Oberdorf was on the list as a returning All Region selection.  Senior reliever Caiden Wood was named as a Player to Watch in 2023 and grad student catcher/first baseman Logan Vietmeier was named to the list as a Newcomer to Watch.
