The Seton Hill wrestling program began their 2022-23 season on the road at the Glenville State Duals with five matches on Saturday in Glenville, WV.
Seton Hill earned two wins in the five matches as they begin the season with a 2-3 record.
The Griffins dropped a 35-18 decision to King (TN) in the first match of the day. Ashland then defeated the Griffins by a score of 38-6 in the second match of the day. SHU defeated Fairmont State by a 42-6 score. They followed that with a 31-21 win over Notre Dame (OH). Glenville defeated the Griffins 33-16 in the final match of the day.
Against King (TN), the Griffins got three wins, all by fall.
Joel Cawoski won at 141 pounds in 49 seconds. Brandon Matthews won by fall in 1:52 at 184 pounds. Riley O'Mara won in just 31 seconds at 197 pounds.
Cawoski and Matthews each earned wins against Ashland. Cawoski won by a 10-3 decision and Matthews won by a 6-1 decision.
The Griffins won nine of the ten matches in the win over Fairmont State. SHU earned five of the wins by fall. Mark Paradine opened the match with a win by fall (0:42) at 125 pounds. William Burgess won by a 6-2 decision at 133 pounds. Cawoski earned another win by fall (2:17) at 141. Dominic Williams earned a win by fall (3:53) at 149 pounds. Jimmy Baxter won by a 9-7 decision score at 157 pounds. Kane Kettering earned an 8-4 decision at 165 pounds. Colby Romjue won by fall at 174 pounds in 4:21. Matthews picked up an 8-1 win by decision at 184 pounds. O'Mara picked up another win by fall at 197 pounds in 3:52.
SHU won six of the ten matches against Notre Dame (OH). Paradine and Cawoski each won by forfeit. Burgess picked up an 8-0 major decision win. Baxter won by fall in 45 seconds. Matthews won a 6-2 decision and O'Mara won by fall in 3:28.
Cawoski won by fall in just 1:10 against Glenville. Williams picked up a major decision 11-1 win. Baxter earned a forfeit win.
SHU will return to the mats on Saturday, November 19th when they host the SHU Duals. The Griffins will wrestle three matches on the day.
