The Griffin wrestling team made their first appearance at home when they hosted the SHU Duals on Saturday morning and afternoon in the McKenna Center. SHU hosted Davis & Elkins, Lake Erie and Belmont Abbey as each school wrestled three matches.
SHU was able to win two of the three matches as they improved to 4-4 on the season. The Griffins won four matches by fall as they defeated Davis & Elkins by a 44-12 score to open the day. SHU then won four matches by fall in a 30-18 victory over Belmont Abbey. Lake Erie then defeated the Griffins by a 41-3 score in the final match of the day.
Joel Cawoski, Dominic Williams, Jimmy Baxter and Logan Davidson each won their matches by fall over D&E. Cawoski won in 1:17. Williams won in 1:50. Baxter won in 1:10 and Davidson won at 4:32. William Burgess and Colby Romjue won their matches by forfeit. Brandon Matthews got a tech fall (16-1) win and Riley O'Mara won 9-7 in overtime.
Cawoski, Baxter, O'Mara and Nick Whittington each picked up wins by fall in the win over Belmont Abbey. Cawoski won in 1:13. Baxter won in 1:20. O'Mara won in 3:14 and Whittington won in 3:20. Matthews earned a win by DQ after his opponent had five stall warmings.
Matthews earned the lone win in the Lake Erie match.
SHU will next host Kutztown on Friday, December 3rd. Match is set for a 7 PM start.
