The Seton Hill cross country teams will compete in the 2022 NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Championships on Saturday afternoon. The event will be hosted by Mansfield University and take place at the Lambs Creek Cross Country Course. It is the same course that the Griffins ran two weeks ago for the PSAC Championships. The 10K men's race is set to begin at 11:30 AM. The 6K women's race will begin at 12:45 PM.
Two weeks ago at the PSAC Championships the women's team finished second. Leading the way for the Griffins was sophomore Hannah Smrcka who finished fourth overall. She ran the 6K course in a time of 22:20.0. Right behind Smrcka was Darby Roth who was fifth overall. Darby ran a time of 22:24.4. Isabella McCabe was 15th overall with a time of 23:10.4. Alexis Cunningham was 25th overall with a time of 23:46.1. All four of the runners earned All PSAC honors with top 30 finishes. Rounding out the top five for the Griffins was Kate Pipilo who was 38th overall. She finished the race in a time of 24:17.1. Isabella Myles was 45th overall (24:27.4).
On the men's side, Gabriel McConville was 27th. He completed the 8K course in a time of 26:11.4. McConville earned All PSAC honors with the top 30 finish. Next up for the Griffins was Donavin Meriweather in 92nd place. He ran a time of 28:25.8.
The Seton Hill women were third in the last Atlantic Regional rankings by the USTFCCA behind Charleston (WV) and Edinboro.
The top three men's and women's teams will automatically qualify for the 2022 NCAA Division II Championship meet. The top two individuals who are not part of a qualifying team will automatically advance to the championship. Also, all individuals who finish in the top five at the regional meet, and are not part of a qualifying team automatically will advance to the NCAA championship (the next eight individuals will be selected at-large).
Following the completion of the eight regional meets, 10 at-large team selections will be announced by the NCAA (Nov. 21). Additional individual at-large selections will be announced by the NCAA after the 34 teams in both the men's and women's the field are finalized. The top 25 individual finishers in each race will be recognized as All-Region honorees during the awards ceremony following the women's race. The All-Region honors are presented by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
