Making their first PSAC Tournament appearance since 2018, Seton Hill traveled to the PSAC West top seed Gannon Tuesday for a quarterfinal match. After a scoreless first half, the Golden Knights scored twice off corner kicks in the second half to come away with a 2-0 victory over the Griffins.
The first half saw limited scoring chances for each side. Seton Hill totaled a 4-3 advantage in shots and put two on net. The best scoring chance came early on, when
Corynna Rotoli got a shot past the Gannon keeper, but it clanged off the right post and back into the keeper's hands five minutes into the match. The second SHU shot on goal came in the 22nd minute when
Jessica Molitoris went low with an attempt, but it was gathered in by the keeper.Â
The latter part of the half saw the Golden Knights possess more. They managed all three of their first-half shots in the final 16 minutes of the period, but due to strong work by the Griffins' defense, none were on goal. Gannon also had five corners in the first half, but could not turn those into shots on goal and the match went to halftime scoreless.
After intermission, Gannon started to create more chances and put pressure on the Griffins. Seton Hill keeper
Grace Kenyon kept the Knights off the scoreboard through the early surge by the home team. She made one save and came off her line to snare a nice cross from the right flank before it found a Gannon player.
The constant push by the Knights would lead to the match's first goal. On Gannon's sixth corner kick of the half, a ball delivered from the right side found a Knight in the box for a header into the back of the net to give Gannon a 1-0 lead in the 73rd minute.
Now needing a goal to tie, Seton Hill went on the offensive and had a couple chances in the next few minutes. However, one shot by
Alexis Garia was stopped and another ripped shot from outside the box by
Madisyn Ramacciotti sailed high.
After holding off those Griffin chances, Gannon would add an insurance goal off another corner in the 84th minute to double their lead to 2-0 and the match would reach the 90th minute with the same score.Â
The setback brought an end to the Seton Hill season with a record of 8-4-7 and the team's third appearance in the PSAC Tournament. Kenyon finished the evening with one save and Moyer had a team-high two shots in the match.
