Seton Hill continued their weekend homestand with a Saturday afternoon matchup with Pitt Johnstown.
The Griffins rallied in the fifth set to defeat UPJ in five in the PSAC West matchup. Seton Hill improves to 15-9 overall and 5-7 in the west.
UPJ built a 19-13 lead in the first set before the Griffins went on a 10-2 run to take a 23-21 lead. The Mountain Cats then scored the final four points of the set as they took a 1-0 lead with a 25-23 first set win. Â
Seton Hill responded with two well played sets as they took a 2-1 lead in the match. The Griffins won the second set by a 25-14 lead. They opened the set with a 7-1 run and never looked back in the set. SHU used a 6-0 and 7-0 run in the third set as they took the lead in the match with a 25-16 set win. Â
The fourth set was played closer than the second and third set. UPJ led 24-21 but the Griffins responded with three straight points to tie the set at 24. UPJ answered with two straight points to send the match to a fifth and deciding set. Â
Pitt Johnstown led for most of the fifth set and forced back to back Griffin timeouts as they took a 13-10 lead. SHU used a kill from
Elizabeth Kolkowski and two UPJ hitting errors to tie the set at 13. Back to back kills from
Paige Cole ended the match and gave SHU a 15-13 set win.
Cole led the Griffins with 15 kills.Â
Payton Rodberg finished with 12 kills and
Bobbi Rempe had 10 kills with no errors in 16 swings. Kolkowski added eight kills.Â
Katie Koziarz led SHU with eight total blocks. Abby Oesterline ran the offense with 41 assists.Â
Mariela Alvarado led SHU with 22 digs. Oesterling added 15 digs.Â
Carrie Leazer had 11 digs and four aces. Â
Seton Hill will travel to Gannon next Friday evening. Â
