The Griffin volleyball team closed out play in the Malone Tournament on Saturday afternoon with a pair of matches in Canton, OH. SHU opened play against host Malone then closed out the day with a matchup with Saginaw Valley. Seton Hill swept Malone before dropping a four set match to Saginaw Valley to wrap up the tourney. SHU completed the tournament with a 3-1 record and is 3-4 overall.
Seton Hill used a 5-0 run midway through the first set to take a 15-12 lead. Malone answered to take a 20-17 lead before the Griffins used a 9-4 run to win the set 26-24. Back to back kills from
Bobbi Rempe then kills from
Mara Yahner and
Riley Rock ended the set with SHU on a 4-0 run.
SHU led early in the second set but Malone again battled back to get back into the set. The Griffins were able to score three of the final four points of the set as they took a 2-0 lead with a 25-23 second set win. The third set was back and forth with neither team holding a huge lead. SHU was able to get kills from Yahner and
Kierstin Schade to win the match with a third set win of 26-24.
Yahner paced the Griffins with 12 kills.
Paige Cole added eight kills and Schade finished with seven. Rock paced the offense with 19 assists. Schade added seven blocks and Rempe added six.
Carrie Leazer finished with 14 digs while
Abby Oesterling added 13.
Seton Hill dominated the first set against Saginaw Valley, winning it by a 25-13 score. The Cardinals battled back to win the final three sets to win the match.
Cole and Yahner each had 11 kills to lead SHU. Rock and
Shannon Watkins paced the offense with 11 assists each. Leazer led with 18 digs.
SHU returns to action next weekend when they host Concord on Saturday afternoon.
