For the second time in school history, the Seton Hill baseball program will be making the 484 mile trip from Greensburg to Cary, NC for the NCAA Division II Baseball Championships. The Griffins earned the trip by sweeping through the 2021 Atlantic Regional with a perfect 3-0 record. Seton Hill (38-6) will open play on Sunday evening when they meet seventh seed and East Region Champion, Southern New Hampshire (28-7) at 6 PM.
The championships will be played at the USA Baseball Training Facility and will be run by the University of Mt Olive and the Town of Cary.

The Griffins earned the trip to Cary by defeating Bloomsburg 15-3 to open the tournament.
Vincenzo Rauso homered and drove in five in the win while
Jack Oberdorf also homered and drove in four runs. SHU advanced to the regional final with a 5-2 win over Millersville in the semifinal. Rauso homered and drove in four runs in the win over Millersville. In the regional final, the Griffins trailed 4-1 but scored three times in the fourth and four times in the fifth for an 8-5 win.
Derek Orndorff and
Jordan Fiedor homered in the fourth to tie the game at 4.
Tommy Pellis and Fiedor each drove in two runs in the fifth to put the Griffins in front. Southern New Hampshire went 4-1 in the East Regional to earn the title. They opened with a 5-1 win over Dominican (NY). The Penmen then defeated Franklin Pierce by a 14-6 score to improve to 2-0. They defeated Molloy 9-3 to advance to the regional final where they dropped an 8-3 decision to Molloy to force a winner take all final. The Penmen defeated Molloy 9-2 to advance to Cary.
#3 seed Angelo State (42-7) will meet sixth seed Wingate (34-12) in the other half of the Griffins bracket at 2 PM on Sunday afternoon. The two winners will meet at 6 PM on Tuesday evening with the two losers meeting at 2 PM in an elimination game on Tuesday afternoon. The tournament begins on Saturday afternoon at 2 PM when #4 seed Trevecca Nazarene (36-11) meets fifth seed Tampa (20-4). The other half of that bracket has top seed Central Missouri (43-6) taking on eighth seed Northwest Nazarene (34-8) at 6 PM.
The Griffins have only played one team in the tournament. SHU is 2-7 all time against Tampa. Seton Hill defeated Tampa 5-4 on March 2nd of last season during their spring break trip.
Pellis leads the Griffins in nearly every offensive category. He is hitting .371 with 53 runs scored and 53 hits. Tommy is tied for the team lead with 42 RBI and he is second with 14 home runs. Orndorff is second on the team with a .367 average. He leads the team lead with 15 homers and is tied with 42 RBI. Derek has added six doubles and two triples.
Owen Sabol is third on the team with a .357 average. He leads the team with 22 stolen bases. Owen has added eight doubles, one triple, four homers and 26 RBI. Rauso is fourth on the team with a .346 average. He leads the team with 12 doubles. Rauso has added three doubles and 26 RBI. Fiedor is hitting .328 while
Isaiah DiAndreth is hitting .316. Both Fiedor and DiAndreth have hit six homers. DiAndreth is second on the team with 41 RBI.
Tyler Peterson is also above 300 at .303. The pitching staff features a 3.01 ERA. Starter
Jared Kollar is 5-0 on the season with a 1.07 ERA. He has struck out 53 in 33.2 innings.
Ben Vicini is 6-1 as a starter and
Kevin Vaupel is 3-1 as a starter. Vaupel has a 2.92 ERA. The relievers are led by
Caiden Wood and
Nash Bryan. Wood is 5-1 on the season with a 1.19 ERA and one save. Bryan is 1-0 with a 1.35 ERA and six saves.
Peyton Reesman is 4-0 in relief this season and has only allowed a run in one of his last six appearances.
The Penmen come into the championships with a .315 average and a 3.31 ERA. Marcus Chavez leads the team with a .417 average. He has added 11 doubles, one triple, five homers and 40 RBI. Michael LaRocca is second with a .367 average. He has added six doubles, two triples and six homers with 24 RBI. Dakota Mulkay leads the team with 14 homers and 48 RBI. He is hitting .349. Danniel Rivera is leading the Penmen with 13 doubles. Rivera is hitting .336. The Penmen have three others hitting over .300. Jeffrey Praml is leading the pitching staff with six complete games. He has a 7-2 record with a 4.03 ERA. Praml has struck out 80 in 67 innings. Nick Artymowicz is 8-2 with a 2.33 ERA. He has struck out 68 in 48 innings and hitters are hitting just .193 off of him. Alex Gomes is 6-0 with a 2.54 ERA. Opponents are also hitting .193 off of Gomes. Trevor Anibal has made 8 appearances out of the bullpen with a 0.79 ERA. Ricky Alexy has made 10 appearances with two saves. Taylor Lepard also has two saves.
