Seton Hill and Millersville met for the second consecutive day as the teams played for the Atlantic Regional Championship with the Griffins just needing one win to take the crown.
The Griffins scored seven times in the middle two innings as they won their second NCAA Atlantic Regional title with an 8-5 win over Millersville. SHU improves to 38-6 overall while the Marauders end their season with a 30-15 record.
Seton Hill starter
Jon McCullough was able to work around a first inning, two out walk to keep the Marauders off the scoreboard. He was not able to do the same in the second inning as they hit a one out solo homer to take a 1-0 lead.
That lead did not last long as the Griffins tied the game at one in the bottom half of the inning.
Derek Orndorff led off with a bunt single and moved to second on an error.
Tommy Pellis' fly ball moved Orndorff to third and he scored on a
Jordan Fiedor RBI single.
Millersville answered right back with three runs in the top of the third inning to take a 4-1 lead. They could have added more but Orndorff threw out a runner at the plate and
Vincenzo Rauso threw out a runner trying to steal second base in the inning.
Seton Hill responded with a three spot in the bottom of the fourth inning using the long ball. Orndorff homered to deep center field with one out. After Pellis was hit by a pitch Fiedor lined a missile to right center field to tie the game at four.
The Griffins then used two huge two out, two RBI hits to take an 8-4 lead over Millersville in the fifth. With one out,
Owen Sabol and Rauso singled.
Isaiah DiAndreth walked to load the bases. After a strikeout, Pellis came through with a huge two out, two RBI double down the left field line on a 3-1 pitch to give SHU a 6-4 lead. Fiedor followed with a liner over the second baseman's head to score two and extend the lead to 8-4.
The Marauders picked up a run in the top of the eighth inning to cut the Griffins lead to 8-5.
Jared Kollar came on to close the game, he got three strikeouts in the ninth to close out the game.
Caiden Wood earned the win with three innings of relief. He gave up just one unearned run while striking out five. Kollar got the save with 1.2 scoreless innings. He struck out three.
Orndorff and Fiedor each had two hits for the Griffins. Rauso added two hits. Fiedor drove in five.
