Griffins Sweep Edinboro to Close out Regular Season

The Griffin softball team closed out their regular season with a road PSAC West doubleheader at Edinboro on Sunday afternoon.  

Seton Hill swept the two game set from the Fighting Scots.  Seton Hill won the first game 11-2 in five innings then completed the sweep with a 14-0, five inning win in game two.  SHU finishes the regular season with a 28-10 overall record and a 25-7 mark in PSAC West play.  

SHU scored runs in all five innings in game one.   In the first, Shayleigh Gulvas reached on an error to open the game and scored on a Jenna Osikowicz triple.  Later in the inning, Lauren Dellett produced an RBI single to give the Griffins an early 2-0 lead.  Mackenzie Zang led off the second inning with a single.  Gulvas was hit by a pitch and Osikowicz singled to drive in Zang and make it 3-0.  Alexis Vargas added a two run single to push the Griffins advantage to 5-0.  

Back to back RBI singles from Gulvas and Osikowicz extended the Griffins lead to 7-0 in the third.  Christiana Skrabak homered with one out in the fourth inning.  Bailey Devinney singled in a run and Gulvas added an RBI double in the inning to push the lead to 10-1.  Morgan Toal homered in the fifth inning to wrap up the scoring for the Griffins.  

Lauren Dellett picked up her 11th win of the season with the complete game victory.  She gave up two runs on three hits and struck out four.  Osikowicz finished with three hits and three RBI.  Gulvas and Toal also added two hits.  

The Griffins struck first in the top of the second inning of game two.  With one out, Skrabak and Samantha Estupinian singled.  Logan Hartman knocked in a run with a groundout to give SHU a 1-0 lead.  Back to back RBI doubles from Zang and Gulvas extended the SHU lead to 3-0.  

Toal doubled with one out to start the third inning.  Alexis Bonatch pinch ran for Toal and later scored on a passed ball.  Skrabak singled and scored on an Estupinian double to give SHU a 5-0 lead.  SHU scored three more times in the fourth.  Zang tripled to lead off the inning and scored on a Gulvas single.  Allison Kapoll followed with a two run homer to put SHU in front 8-0.  

SHU put the game away with six runs in the fifth inning.  Estupinian walked and Madison Hans singled to put runners on first and second.  Zang followed with a single to extend the lead to 10-0.  After Gulvas was hit by a pitch, Osikowicz singled her in.  Toal closed out the scoring with a three run homer.  

Hartman remained perfect in the circle with a complete game two hit shutout to improve to 11-0 on the season.  She struck out three in the win.  Zang and Estupinian each had three hits for the Griffins.  Gulvas, Toal and Skrabak each added two.

The Griffins will now host Mercyhurst in a best of three PSAC Quarterfinal beginning on Wednesday at 1 PM.  Game two will follow game one with the if necessary game three to be played on Thursday at 1 PM.
